Digital Earth: The Key to Unlocking the Metaverse

Digital Earth: The Key to Unlocking the Metaverse

Devices Won’t Start the Metaverse

Will the Metaverse begin once AR glasses and VR devices become mainstream?
No. That is an illusion.

The true beginning of the Metaverse will come only when all of us accept and use the Digital Earth as the spatial foundation of the internet.

The Internet Has No Space

Today’s internet has developed on an inherently non-spatial structure.

IP addresses, domain names, and URLs are nothing more than systems and protocols for calling data. Nowhere do they express boundaries or territories. The internet is not a place to walk around — it is little more than instant teleportation.

Virtual worlds like Second Life, Minecraft, and Roblox were creative experiments but became isolated universes, disconnected from real-world coordinates.

It is about adding coordinates and boundaries on top of addresses and links, transforming the internet so that it operates as real space.

Mapping services such as Google Maps and Mapbox revolutionized navigation but remained representational tools, not actual space.

The Metaverse is not about building maps or playgrounds.

Chaos Before DNS

In its earliest days, each institution maintained its own hosts.txt file to manage addresses. That worked when the network was small, but as usage grew and connections expanded, the system quickly broke down.

The Domain Name System (DNS) solved this problem.

By introducing a distributed, hierarchical structure, DNS reduced conflicts and enabled the entire world to connect within a single order. This gave birth to the internet as we know it.

Right now, countless fragmented virtual spaces are being created. But this resembles the pre-DNS chaos, where every institution ran its own incompatible address book.

Unregulated proliferation of spaces leads to fragmentation. Continuity disappears. Scalability collapses. In such an environment, the Metaverse cannot survive.

The same is true for the Metaverse.

Digital Earth is The Key

The Digital Earth offers the solution. Anchored to real-world latitude and longitude, it defines boundaries and territories that everyone can share.

Coordinates become the foundation for AR, linking digital layers to physical reality. Earth itself becomes the spatial stage upon which VR worlds can interconnect.

Just as DNS opened the internet era, the Digital Earth will open an entirely new era of the 3D internet: the Metaverse.

Instead of scattered and isolated domains, the future internet — the Metaverse — will unite us all, but only when it is built upon the Digital Earth.
