Seoul Metro Line 2 Subway Exit #Monument Project
The Seoul-metro is one of the most widely used public transportation systems in the world, serving millions of people every day.
Among its many lines, Line 2 is the most traveled, circling the city and connecting both the downtown core and surrounding districts.
In this project, we installed a Nin.Earth #Monument at all 273 subway exits of Line 2.
These #Monuments are 3D objects that display the official subway exit numbers.
What is a Nin.Earth #Monument?
"It is a digital 3D object tied to a real location.
Through AR, each #Monument appears as the exit number sign, linking the physical subway exit with its digital counterpart."
Why the exits on Line 2?
Line 2 is not only the busiest but also the most symbolic subway line in Seoul.
It loops around the entire city, linking the central areas with the outer neighborhoods.
Subway Exits are the places where daily life begins and ends—where people meet, part, and move into the flow of the city.
By placing a Nin.Earth #Monument at each of these exits, we wanted to create an opportunity for anyone to experience AR in an ordinary, familiar setting.
A challenging Process
the Geo-Spatially precise Tiles(Domain Space)
We identified the exact coordinates of each exit and secured the corresponding digital tiles. This required about 5 Solana (around $1,000 at the time).
Subway exit Number Images
For every #Monument, we uploaded an image file showing the subway exit number so that it could be easily recognized.
Precise Placement
By default, a #Monument is placed at the center of a tile.
We adjusted each one carefully so that it matched the real-world position of the exit.
Testing & Verification
Finally, we tested all 273 exits under different conditions to confirm that each #Monument appeared and functioned correctly.
Now, anyone traveling across Seoul—whether local residents or visitors—can see and interact with these #Monuments as part of their AR experience.
What We Hope for
With this project, every exit on Line 2 has become a small “place” inside the internet.
Each #Monument allows people to see how a familiar spot in the city can also exist as part of a shared digital layer.
We believe the Line 2 #Monument Project marks more than just the placement of 3D objects.
It is an early step toward connecting the city and the internet in new ways, and toward making augmented reality a natural part of everyday life.
⚠ Note: In areas with tall buildings, GPS signals can be unstable, which may affect the accuracy of #Monument placement.
